This was absolutely amazing! For a while now I have been very unable to get myself around to watching this and eventually got to see it in class… Let’s just say, I never knew a 1920′s film would ever make such a big impression on me! The mise-en-scène is amazing with the painted backgrounds, the shadows and the whole influence of expressionism is just great! For me it works, even out of the socio-political context of the film, it works.
Okay, so check the full film on youtube or get your hands on a some sort of reconstructed version (if that’s what it was), because it looks better with the intertitles than the one on youtube. Either way, enjoy because it’s freaking great!
